With the feel of a tumbled stone, the rough-etched, stony surface contrasts with the deep shiny blue cobalt glaze in the 'rockpool'. A handbuilt, stoneware ceramic sculpture, textured with impressed ammonite fossils and layered land and seascape imagery. Each boulder vessel features a 'haiku' - this is impressed into the clay by hand using metal letterpress. This haiku by Sue Spencer reads:

what remains lies here
scattered on a wave cut shore
past, present, future

Each boulder is unique and signed with my maker's mark (MH) on the base. They make a great feature on a low coffee table or hearth. Boulders are frost-resistant and also look good nestled amongst plants or different sizes grouped on a patio outside.
This medium size boulder measures approximately 18cm diameter by 11cm high.

I am offering this piece for sale as part of the 'Artists Support Pledge' - a culture of support and generosity set up by artist Matthew Burrows. During the Covid-19 crisis of 2020 many artists are unable to show/sell work through their usual outlets. Open studios events, fairs and workshops are on hold until it is safe for all involved to recommence them. The pledge is simple, I sell a selection of artworks for £200 or under and tag them #artistsupportpledge on social media. When I reach £1000 in sales I buy another artist's work for £200. This is a wonderful idea and I hope that you will not only support me but also help support other artisans through some difficult times.
